Solar export rates, checked 20 October 2026
Electric Ireland pays the highest export rate at 19.5c per kWh, against 15.2c at EcoPower. For a home exporting 3,000 kWh a year, that gap is worth €129 a year. But the export rate is only part of the bill: the plan you buy electricity on usually matters more, so compare both.
| Supplier | Export rate per kWh | 3,000 kWh exported earns |
|---|---|---|
| Electric Ireland | 19.5c | €585 a year |
| SSE Airtricity | 19.5c | €585 a year |
| Bord Gáis Energy | 18.5c | €555 a year |
| Energia | 18.5c | €555 a year |
| Flogas | 18.5c | €555 a year |
| Pinergy | 18.5c | €555 a year |
| Yuno Energy | 17.16c | €515 a year |
| PrePayPower | 15.89c | €477 a year |
| EcoPower | 15.2c | €456 a year |

What is the Clean Export Guarantee?
It is the payment your supplier makes for each kWh of solar electricity you send to the grid, under the Micro-generation Support Scheme. Each supplier sets its own rate.
Is export income taxed in Ireland?
The first €400 a year of income from exporting electricity is exempt from income tax. Above that it is taxable.
Do I need a smart meter to be paid for export?
Yes. Export is measured by a smart meter, which ESB Networks installs, usually free, once your installer notifies them.
Load your ESB smart meter file below, add your panels, and every plan is priced with its own export rate. All plan rates · Is a battery worth it?
Test changes against your real readings
Each half hour of your data is re-run with these panels, battery and car, then every plan is re-priced.
Prices include VAT, the supplier’s stated discount and the PSO levy (€6.67 a year). Standing charges differ for rural homes. Discounts usually last 12 months. Check the plan with the supplier before switching.

- No panel, inverter or battery brand named.
- A price far below the community median with no clear reason.
- Extras such as a gateway, changeover switch or scaffolding that appear only after you sign.
